Natural Aphid Control: How to Make a Tomato Leaf Spray

Steep the Mixture:
  1. Pour the water over the chopped tomato leaves in the container. Let the mixture steep for at least 24 hours, preferably up to 48 hours. This allows the alkaloids to leach into the water.
  2. Strain the Solution:
    • After steeping, strain the liquid into a clean spray bottle using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. This removes the solid leaf particles, leaving you with a concentrated tomato leaf extract.
  3. Dilute (if desired):
    • While the concentrated extract can be effective on its own, you may choose to dilute it further with water to make it go further and reduce the intensity of the tomato scent.
  4. Application:
    • Shake the spray bottle well before each use to ensure even distribution of the solution.
    • Spray the tomato leaf spray directly onto the affected plants, making sure to coat both the tops and bottoms of the leaves where aphids tend to gather.
  5. Repeat as Needed:
    • Apply the tomato leaf spray every few days or after rain to maintain its effectiveness. This helps in disrupting aphid infestations and protecting your plants.
